About NDS

My company has its beginnings with Network Computing magazine, which is a publication of CMP Media, Inc. I was hired in 1998 to do what is called the magazines "centerfold". I was teamed with an IT specialist and writer to spotlight emerging technology and to create a network diagram clearly showing how that technology was being implemented. Originally the diagram was a foldout page in the publication but in later years that was abandoned for a more practical two page spread.

My Background.

I am a freelance illustrator and a graphic designer with over 25 years experience in a wide variety of fields. I have worked as an Art Director, a Graphic Designer and as an Illustrator for a wide variety of clients. In those capacities I have worked for major corporations, ad agencies, television stations and (currently) as an independent contractor.

It is this background that I bring to the creation of my network diagramming icons. I understand what a marketing tool needs to accomplish, whether it's for a presentation, a report, a proposal or a trade show display. With my easy to use library of icons and my system of snap-to-grids it's very simple to create comprehensive, user-friendly diagrams mapping out your network.

My credentials.

Personally, I am well versed in illustrating technical material. I was the Senior Art Director for The U.S. Space and Rocket Center and U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama for many years and as such I had to diagram complicated NASA material for the space museum and camp. These diagrams had to be accurate but easy to understand. It was this experience that led me into diagramming internet technology. Since then I have worked for many technology publications such as Windows, HomePC, NetGuide, Computer Reseller News and Network Computing magazines. (I also produce a wide range of informational graphics and illustrations that do not relate to the internet technology field. As an interesting side note I also worked for TSR Inc. for many years doing illustrations. TSR is the company that produced Dungeons & Dragons.)

I really take great pride in the work I do and I think it shows in my sample diagrams. If you ever have any questions pertaining to my icon library please feel free to call and speak directly with me.

Axonometric

The technical name for this style of drawing is "Axonometric". Axonometric is a three dimensional drawing style where everything in the drawing is placed on a 90º or 45º angle. Lining up network diagrams using this style produces a very clear and concise graphic that is easy to produce and easy for the viewer to comprehend quickly.
